The blue of the image is of extraordinary depth—it evokes light underwater, twilight, or a world just before waking. The silence between the forms is as significant as the forms themselves. One stands before an image that is more question than answer.
Background & Meaning
Created in 2001, this work belongs to Ri Meuser’s mature phase of color field exploration. For her, blue is not a neutral tone, but an expression of depth, longing, and the unknown. The mono-sgraffito technique allows for the exposure of different layers within this world of color—an image created by revealing, not by building up.
