Image Interpretation
"Passion" depicts two faces turning toward each other in a passionate moment – merged in a swirl of dark blue, black, and fiery red. The bodies and forms flow into one another; the boundaries between self and other dissolve. At the bottom edge of the image rests a small bird – silent in the midst of the storm.
Atmosphere & Effect
The image is permeated with intense emotional energy. The color palette of deep blue-black, blazing orange, and a touch of gold suggests fire, night, and devotion all at once. One can feel the warmth and inevitability of this moment – an image that takes your breath away.
Background & Significance
Created in 1989-1991, "Passion" is one of the most emotional works from this creative period. Here, Ri Meuser returns to an ancient theme of painting: the union of two people. Through the mono-sgraffito technique, this theme gains a physical dimension – layers are exposed, and the hidden is brought to light. The bird at the bottom of the image is a symbol of peace amidst the passion.
Was ist Monosgrafitto?
