Image Interpretation

From a blazing interplay of night blue, flaming orange, and shimmering gold rises a female figure who dominates the entire pictorial space. She is enthroned above a host of smaller beings—monkeys, faces, shadowy figures—who look up to her like creatures seeking their creator.

A bird with a long beak approaches her face as if to whisper a secret, while golden butterflies dance around her body and flowing hair—delicate symbols of transformation and fleeting beauty. Blossoms vine around her outstretched arm, as if nature itself were emanating from her.

The central figure radiates a calm superiority reminiscent of depictions of goddesses in archaic cultures—an imagery that Ri Meuser von Eschmar deeply internalized during her study trips to India, Nepal, and Sikkim. The monkeys at the woman's feet reinforce this impression: in Hindu iconography, they are companions of the divine, and in the temples of India, the artist encountered them as living crossers of the boundary between the everyday and the sacred.

The small, childlike faces at the bottom edge of the image also pick up on a fundamental theme of her work—the connection of human, animal, and mythical creature in a dreamlike narrative in which the lived and the imagined merge inseparably.
