Image Interpretation
Three majestic female figures rise from a shimmering interplay of turquoise, amber, and earth tones—like guardian goddesses from a forgotten time.
Each of the matrons wears her own crown and holds her own attributes: the one on the left protectively cradles a small creature in her arms, the center one gazes at the viewer with calm self-assurance, while the one on the right, surrounded by fish and marine forms, seems to be looking into another sphere. Fish glide through the composition like silent messengers—a recurring symbol in Ri Meuser von Eschmar’s work, representing purity, bliss, and immortality in the early Christian sense.
The depiction of the three matrons is deeply rooted in the Celtic-Roman mythology of the Rhineland, a tradition the artist was familiar with from her adopted home of Troisdorf in the Rhineland. At the same time, her intense study of Etruscan art is reflected in the archaic faces and the solemn arrangement of the figures—Ri Meuser participated in archaeological excavations of Etruscan burial sites herself and incorporated these experiences directly into her visual language.
Was ist Monosgrafitto?
