Product Description
Strange Family (1972–1973) is a work created using the mono-sgraffito technique, featuring a dense, imaginative world of figures in which humans, animals, and mysterious beings merge with one another. Faces, birds, and whimsical characters appear simultaneously within the pictorial space, forming an unusual community—almost like a family from another, surreal world.
The composition is layered and complex. Individual figures emerge from the background, overlap, and disappear again amidst lines, textures, and transparent layers of color. Fine drawings and the characteristic sgraffito technique create a vibrant surface where new details can be discovered constantly.
Warm tones of brown, ocher, and pink combine with delicate shades of gray and white. The numerous figures, eyes, and animals imbue the work with a mysterious and slightly humorous atmosphere.

Monosgrafitto ist eine einzigartige Maltechnik, die Ri Meuser von Eschmar über Jahrzehnte entwickelt und verfeinert hat. Dabei wird Farbe in mehreren Schichten aufgetragen und noch im feuchten Zustand durch gezieltes Einritzen und Abtragen wieder freigelegt.
