Sisters

Description

"Sisters" is a work that matured over nearly three decades – from the first sketches in 1979 to the final revision in 2007. It is one of the most personal works by Prof. Ri Meuser von Eschmar, created in her unmistakable Mono Sgraffito technique, which she invented herself and continued to develop over decades.

The image depicts two women, closely linked – not only by blood ties, but by a quiet, deep understanding. Their faces lean toward each other as if listening to the unspoken word that only sisters know. A warm light flows between them, making gold and ochre glow and making their closeness almost tangible.

The fine lines of the engraving, the delicate transitions of silver, red, and gold, lend the scene an intimate, almost sacred atmosphere. The light seems to come from within the figures – a symbol for the spiritual connection that outlasts time and distance.

In the Mono Sgraffito technique, Meuser applies multiple layers of pigments, metals, and lacquers, only to expose them again and paint over them anew. This creates a complex interplay of transparency, depth, and light – much like interpersonal relationships are composed of layers of memory, affection, and vulnerability.

"Sisters" is a homage to the feminine – to closeness, empathy, and the quiet power of mutual care. A work that, in its timeless beauty, serves as a reminder that true connection is not loud, but radiantly silent.
