Description
"Couple with Mirror" is a work that grew over the course of nearly two decades—a silent testament to the patience, depth, and emotional complexity in the creative work of Prof. Ri Meuser von Eschmar. Created between 1983 and 2002 using her unmistakable Mono Sgraffito technique, this painting unites love, reflection, and metaphysics in a shimmering composition of gold, silver, and earthy hues.
At the center stands a couple—intimate, yet surrounded by a subtle sense of distance. Their bodies appear to touch, while their gazes penetrate one another as if through an invisible surface. Between them, almost floating, is a small mirror—a symbol of self-knowledge and the exchange between the inner and outer worlds. The light refracts on the metallic, glistening surface, allowing faces and forms to emerge and vanish, like memories of past tenderness.
The couple is surrounded by an iridescent world of animals, mythical figures, and fragments of nature—fabled beings that act as both observers and companions. The work bears the signature of an artist who is not content with merely representing the visible, but seeks the essence of the invisible.
The Mono Sgraffito technique, which Meuser perfected over decades, reveals itself here in all its power: layers of pigment, metal particles, and fine engravings merge into a surface that lives and breathes. The work changes with every ray of light—it is never the same, just as no encounter is ever the same.
"Couple with Mirror" speaks of closeness and separation, of projection and realization. It is a work about love in its deepest form—as a mirror in which one recognizes not only the other, but also oneself. A poetic emblem for the duality of life—and the infinity of the moment.
Was ist Monosgrafitto?
