Light beings from the past

Description

"Beings of Light from the Past" from 1984 is one of the most mysterious and, at the same time, spiritually profound works by Prof. Ri Meuser von Eschmar. Created in her self-developed technique of Mono Sgraffito, the work speaks of memory, transience, and the invisible bond between the past and the present.

In earthy, sepia-toned hues, an almost archaeological surface unfolds, reminiscent of ancient frescoes or buried wall reliefs. Lines, shadows, and fine engravings form shadowy figures – beings of light emerging from the layers of time. Some are merely hinted at, while others seem to glow as if they have stepped over to us from another dimension.

Light refracts on the multi-layered surface, wandering across the fine incisions and causing figures to appear that come and go like memories that never quite fade. Meuser succeeds in preserving the essence of the past—not as a look back, but as a living presence.

Her Mono Sgraffito proves to be more than just a technique here—it is a process of rebirth. Each layer of paint is applied, scraped away, re-applied, and covered with metallic pigments until the work begins to shine from within.

"Beings of Light from the Past" is a visual meditation on what remains when time passes. It serves as a reminder that everything that was still resonates within us—quietly, luminously, imperishably.
