Created between 1989 and 1991 by German artist Ri Meuser von Eschmar (1927–2018), Once Upon a Time is a fairytale scene full of quiet symbolism — two figures in stillness, luminous greens, a world of their own. Her Mono Sgraffito technique — up to 16 layers of petrochemical pigments and gold dust on ultra-thin translucent foil — produces a luminosity that no photograph fully captures. Exhibited in over 350 shows worldwide, including Harrods London and the Galleria dell'Arte Florence.
