Description
"Golden Lady," from the years 1998–2000, depicts a female figure emerging from a multi-layered space of color and symbols. The figure appears both present and detached, as if standing between apparition and memory. Her gaze is calm, almost knowing, and is not directed outward, but instead seems to lead into an inner space. Surrounded by warm golden tones, earthy layers, and cool shades of blue and green, an atmosphere of both protection and openness is created. The suggested shape of the head, with a luminous, almost halo-like element, gives the figure a sacred quality without defining it definitively.
The mono-sgraffito technique enhances this impression of depth and temporality. Layers of pigment were built up, exposed again, scratched into, and made permeable. Lines and planes interlock, dissolve, and reform, so that the figure does not appear static, but rather part of an ongoing internal process. The portrait of the lady thus becomes less a portrait in the classical sense than a poetic apparition—a symbol of femininity, dignity, and quiet strength. The small format intensifies the effect: only up close do the fine structures, the traces of the work process, and the emotional depth of the work reveal themselves.
Was ist Monosgrafitto?
