Elmsfeuer (St. Elmo's Fire) (2002) is an atmospheric work in mono-sgraffito technique measuring 35 × 50 cm. The scene depicts a floating figure gliding through a mysterious landscape of water, light, and architectural forms.
The color palette consists of deep shades of brown, blue, and copper, traversed by glowing trails of light. These are reminiscent of the so-called St. Elmo's fire—a rare natural phenomenon where electrical luminescence appears on masts or points. In the image, this light becomes a poetic force that combines movement, energy, and imagination.
The sgraffito technique creates a vibrant, texture-rich surface. Delicate lines and transparent layers of color allow landscape, architecture, and figure to merge with one another. This results in an almost cosmic atmosphere between sky, water, and dream world.
