Description

"Damenbildnis" (Portrait of a Lady) from 2001 shows Prof. Ri Meuser von Eschmar at the height of her artistic maturity – confident in expression, sensitive in symbolism, and technically masterful in the execution of her self-developed Mono Sgraffito technique.

The figure of the lady emerges from a flowing mist of gray, silver, and gold – half dream, half memory. Her gaze is calm but full of depth, as if she carries the traces of past lives within her. Delicate engravings traverse the image like lines of thought, laying themselves across her face and garment. Behind her, birds appear in shadowy form – messengers of light, symbols of freedom and spiritual clarity, which Meuser repeatedly depicted as companions to her female figures.

The color palette is muted yet luminous: light breaks forth from the darkness like an inner revelation. The interplay between transparency and texture, created through the repeated application, scraping away, and glazing of pigment layers, gives the work an almost sculptural presence.

Thematically, "Damenbildnis" stands in the tradition of Meuser’s mystical portraits – depictions of the feminine as an embodiment of intuition, wisdom, and quiet strength. The lady here is not merely a person, but a symbol – for the light that shines within every human being, even when surrounded by shadow.

"Damenbildnis" is a work of quiet sublimity – a moment of introspection captured in layers of color, metal, and memory. A portrait that does not show the exterior, but rather what remains when all masks have fallen.
