From another time

"From Another Time", dating from 1970, is one of the early, visionary works by Prof. Ri Meuser von Eschmar – and counts among those pieces in which her unmistakable signature already emerges: the fusion of matter, memory, and symbolism. Created using the mono sgraffito technique she developed herself, the work shows how layers of paint, pigments, and engravings merge into a poetic unity.

Fine lines and shadowy forms run through the surface as if they were traces of a long-lost world. Shimmering gold and rosé accents glow within the earthy, smoky tones, reminiscent of old frescoes or weathered fossils. Figures and faces emerge from the mist of the texture – barely visible and yet present, like memories that cannot quite be grasped.

The work carries the mysterious atmosphere that characterizes many of Meuser's pieces: a hovering between dream and history, between light and depth. The title "From Another Time" is more than just a description – it is a manifesto. Meuser allows the viewer to immerse themselves in layers of time, in an archaic, almost mystical world that is recreated through her technique.

The mono sgraffito unfolds its full magic here: up to sixteen layers are applied, scraped away, and painted over again. Each one harbors traces that act like sediments of artistic memory.
