bild-72
The rooster above the bird castle

Description

"The Rooster over the Bird Fortress" is a work full of wit, poetry, and symbolic power – an image that feels as if it had told itself onto paper from an old fable.

At the center stands a proud rooster, color-intense and richly layered in Ri Meuser's characteristic mono-sgraffito technique. The artist applies pigments layer by layer, scrapes them away again, and lets lines and forms emerge from the background—creating plumage that looks not just painted, but literally chiseled. Every color transition, every crack, every shimmer tells its own story.

The rooster gazes watchfully ahead, his eye clear and attentive. He is a guardian, a protector, a leader—but also a playfully imagined figure from a fairytale world. Below him unfolds the Bird Fortress, an entire little realm of filigree structures, gates, columns, and ornamental elements. Everything feels organic, almost alive, as if the lines themselves were still growing.

Meuser combines animal and architecture into a poetic network: the Bird Fortress is not just a place; it is the rooster's home, his kingdom. Here, fantasy, movement, and quiet irony prevail. Between the abstract forms, small faces, birds, and creatures appear—some clear, some only visible in the corner of one's eye.

The warm red and ocher tones of the rooster stand in exciting contrast to the soft, almost cloud-like areas around him. This creates a narrative dualism of power and delicacy, architecture and nature, reality and dream.

"The Rooster over the Bird Fortress" is a humorous, mystical gem—a picture that is both playful and deeply symbolic. A work that invites its viewers to continue writing the fairytale behind the motif themselves.
